Worktops

February 2024

When it comes to kitchen worktops there is definitely a lot of choice. Being a considered purchase, it can be quite daunting to know what colour, texture, or material to go for.

Are you an avid baker? Or the perfect host? Maybe you want to match your kitchen worktop to complement your open plan living. Laings Directline have the choice and the expertise to help you with your decision.

Worktops

Laminate

Laminate worktops have come a long way in the last 10 years. Now with more realistic grains and added textures and thicknesses, laminate would still be considered as one of the most popular and cost-effective worktops to add to your kitchen.

Our laminates are of a high German quality. Supplied with a PP -edge – factory finished – the edge can take a higher impact with a resistance to chipping. Whether you are looking for long lengths of worktop for your kitchen – up to 5.1m – or an extended breakfast bar for additional seating, our worktops can be factory finished up to the depth of 1.2m.

Nearly all our worktop finishes can also be supplied as panels for a sleek, continuous splashback in your kitchen to complement your worktops.

Compact Laminate

With this high-pressure compression construction, compact laminate is a durable solid stone like material. The core has a colour tone, the top is then applied with a décor sheeting – making this product versatile and available in a variety of finishes and colours. With its 12.5mm sleek edge, this product offers a stylish substitute to solid stone.

When it comes to design details, this ‘cool to touch’ product delivers. Unlike laminate, you can install an undermount sink along with drainer grooves, and if you are looking for that sleek waterfall edge style on a tighter budget, compact laminate can be cut on site to achieve this aesthetic.

The surface is non porous and has an antibacterial protection applied as standard – giving a hygienic finish, with no special cleaning routine.

Solid Surface

There is always a pull to have solid surface in your kitchen – and the reasons speak for themselves. Available in a polished, suede or volcano finish, this hard-wearing surface is considered to be more durable than laminate and compact laminate. It’s still not indestructible - we would always say to be careful with heat – but it can withstand acid, scratches and has a strong impact resistance.

Stone manufacturers are now using far more sustainable materials when fabricating the product but any devoted baker would still tell you that the cool surface is an ideal worktop to use in preparation for any show-stopper bake.

With nearly 30 different edge profiles available and the ability to build up the product to any thickness, a stone worktop can be as sleek or dramatic as you could imagine. Due to the flexibility of design detail on offer and the bespoke options that are possible, this product is a considered purchase that can have a huge impact in your kitchen.

Along with our multiple worktops on display, our knowledgeable team of designers can help find the exact worktop to match your aesthetic – be it style or practicality – we have a selection of options to suit your budget.
