Laings Directline Kids Cook-along - Week 1

Discover our delicious recipe for tomato soup here: Creamy Tomato Soup (Courtesy of BBC Good Food)

To make our sausage rolls, we adapted a BBC Good Food recipe, using puff pastry instead of bread dough. To make them:

1. We cooked some good quality pork chipolata sausages and sliced them into small pieces, grated lots of cheddar cheese and sliced up some spring onions

2. We laid a sheet of ready rolled puff pastry on a baking tray and, leaving a gap in the middle, spread garlic butter in two stripes down the length of the pastry

3. On top of the garlic butter we placed the sliced up sausages, grated cheese and spring onions

4. We then sliced the pastry in half and folded the two strips over, crimping the edges with a fork to seal in all the filling

5. Finally, we brushed the pastry with milk and cooked the sausage rolls in an oven pre-heated to 175 degrees centigrade for 25 minutes

Laings Directline Kids Cook-along - Week 2

This week's recipe is deliciously quick, simple and cheap to make. These tortilla pizzas can be made in a matter of minutes and the kids can get involved with making them - by choosing their toppings and loading their pizzas with them ready for the oven. They are perfect for a quick and healthy midweek supper!

To make your Tortilla Pizzas, you will need:

  • A pack of tortillas (we used Lidl's Mediterranean Herb Tortillas for extra flavour)
  • Tomato Passata
  • Mozzarella Pearls
  • Assorted toppings - we used sun dried tomatoes, ham and basil
  • Parmesan Cheese

1. First, preheat your oven to 190 degrees centigrade and place your tortillas on to baking trays

2. Put a heaped tablespoon of passata onto each one and cover the base with an even layer leaving a gap around the edge as the 'crust'

3. Start to build your toppings, adding veggies and cooked meats before finishing your pizza with torn up mozzarella pearls, a grating of parmesan and any herbs

4. Cook in the oven for 8 to 10 minutes until the tortilla is crisp and the cheese has melted

5. Serve and enjoy!

Laings Directline Kids Cook-along - Week 3

This week's recipe is a deliciously sweet treat to make with the little ones this weekend. It's also a classic - a simple bake which many of us have fond childhood memories of making with our grandparents. It's not particularly healthy - but everyone deserves a Mars Bar Crispy Square once in a while!

To make your Mars Bar Crispy Squares you will need:

  • 4 Mars Bars
  • 2 Tablespoons Golden Syrup
  • 85g Butter
  • 200g Milk Chocolate
  • A box of Rice Crispies

1.First, melt the butter, Mars Bars and golden syrup in a bowl above a pan of simmering water

2.Once melted, stir through as many rice crispies as required, so you have a sticky but not too loose mixture. We added a handful at a time until we got the right quantity

3.Tip the mixture into a rectangular baking tray and spread it to each of the edges to create an even surface

4. Melt the milk chocolate in a bowl over a pan of simmering water, then pour it over the crispies mixture to create a topping

5. Chill the tray bake in the fridge for at least an hour

6. Slice up your Mars Bar Crispy Squares and enjoy!
